On Monday 16 March 2009 the re-release of Chris Rea's 'Tell me there's a heaven' became available as a download to buy in memory of Baby P.  All proceeds from the download are going to the NSPCC.

The campaign to re-release the single was driven by a group of six ordinary mums.  Louise Ashby, Lisa Cosburn, Gail Townsley, Carla Bailey, Mary Harrison, and Lynsey Macdougall, who had never met before but were joined in grief over the reports of Baby P and his harrowing ordeal, desperately wanted to do something to help the children who are still suffering in similar situations but also wanted to remember his short life and find a fitting tribute to him.

Louise Ashby said: “We came up with the idea of a song release and I suggested Chris Rea's 'Tell me there's a heaven', a song written by Chris for victims of abuse, with words that were painfully real to Baby P's plight. “So we started a Facebook group called 'A Song for Baby P' in November last year and started to campaign for the re-release of this poignant single for him. With the help and support of so many people, we have finally managed it.  “Radio Derby was instrumental in helping us contact Chris' manager, our group members have been tireless in sending their requests for the release to the label, which has been amazingly helpful and generous throughout.”

Chris Rea and Warner (Rhino) kindly agreed to donate all net profits from the sale of each single to the NSPCC – a minimum of 20p per download.  The group of mothers couldn't have asked for more assistance and are so proud to have succeeded in doing something for Baby P. Alex McDowell, fundraising manager at the NSPCC said: “We are very grateful to everyone involved with this project for their support. The money raised will help to fund the vital work the Society carries out in trying to protect vulnerable children.”

Fellow group member Lisa Coburn added:  “The money will go towards helping the children out there still suffering at the hands of those who should love and nurture them, through the help of an organisation committed to ending the abuse of our children, we pray this makes a difference!”

“Baby P has touched so many lives, there are thousands of people doing whatever they can to remember him, find justice for him and raise money for children like him. “We really hope that this single goes some way towards honouring the memory of a little angel that suffered so needlessly, and to provide a life-line for others in similar situations.”
